Punk Rock Heavy Relic Guitars

IMG_1931         IMG_1971

Back in the early Punk Rock/Alternative days it was quite common to paint and decal over your guitar. Either to give it that one off look or you just did not like the color…. Joe Strummer from ‘The Clash‘ was a good example of this, as was Thurston Moore from ‘Sonic Youth‘. We tried to capture some of that individuality with our Heavy Relic range of guitars.

Both these guitars are swamp ash bodies and have a heavy vintage nitrocellulose lacquer over an old 3 tone sunburst finnish. The J- Style has a Jazz pickup in the neck and aP90 in the bridge, both from Arcane pickups here in Los Angeles. The S-style has vintage 59 single coil pickups also hand wound from Rob at Arcane Pickups. The necks are both hand shaped to our specs and have round back contours.

These guitars not only look unique but also deliver where it counts the most……. kick ass sounding!

These guitars are for sale and are available now!

The Cold and Lovely

Alternative rock band “The Cold and Lovely” are an L.A. based outfit and have just released a new EP “Ellis Bell”. Guitarist Meghan Toohey ( Weepies, Lenka ) and bassist Nicole Fiorentino ( Smashing Pumpkins, Veruca Salt ) both play Bonneville guitars. For Meg I made a Jazz style body from Aged Swamp Ash and fitted it Arcane Inc. hand wound pickups and the neck was styled around a 50′s based neck and Jim Dunlop jumbo frets. I had made a Jazz Styled bass from Swamp Ash, fitted Arcane vintage pickups and with a block inlay 70′s based neck. I had nicknamed it ” Blondie” due to the aged blond based nitrocellulose finish. I showed the bass to Nicole and instantly she fell in love with how it played and sounded so it is now part of her bass arsenal.

Make sure you catch this talented band……sound awesome live!

Dan Rothchild Bass

Dan Rothchild is best known as a Bass player, Producer and super nice guy! Having worked for artists …..Shakira, Beck, Melissa Etheridge and many more, is currently playing Bass for the band ‘Heart‘ with Ann and Nancy Wilson.  Dan mostly plays a well used 70′s Fender P Bass and was looking for a Jazz Style Bass to compliment his extensive range of Guitars. Working with Dan we came up with a Swamp Ash body , an Aged 3-Tone Sunburst nitrocellulose finish, custom vintage hand wound pickups from Arcane Inc. and traditional vintage style neck.  The result was this Bonneville Jazz Style Bass that sounds awesome, has that played in feel and rocks out live on stage!

Doug Aldrich Guitar

With this custom T-Style build I collaborated with amazingly talented guitarist Doug Aldrich from the bands Whitesnake and Burning Rain. I started with an aged piece of Alder and routed the pickups for a signature Doug Aldrich Suhr humbucker pickup in the neck position. Doug wanted to experiment with the traditional single coil in the bridge so we asked Chris at Suhr Guitars to custom wind us a pickup that would be more tonally suited to Doug’s neck pickup and with more output. I custom made the pickguard to accommodate both pickups and Doug liked the layout of the tone /volume controls and toggle switch, similar to a Les Paul. The neck was based on a 59 Les Paul specs, 11″ radius and 22 frets with Jim Dunlop 6100 fret wire.

The results were awesome! …….and so as Doug calls it ,”The Stormbringer” was born.
